ECHA will continue to publish REACH registration statistics
ECHA has begun publishing detailed statistics on REACH registration submissions, registered chemical substances, and the sources of these substances. This move aims to increase transparency and improve public understanding of the chemical substance registration process. The agency plans to update its statistics monthly, analyzing the number of registrations received from June 2008 to August 31, 2012, in various ways.
The first set of statistics released by ECHA shows that:
– 4,632 unique substances, with a total of 27,321 registration submissions;
– Of these, 3,270 are unique substances, and 25,291 are registered as joint submissions;
– 2,489 intermediate substances, with a total of 6,338 registration submissions;
– 3,817 registration submissions for 1,084 substances came from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs);
– 1,423 substances with a total of 5,545 registration submissions, the sole representative of non-EU manufacturers.
The published statistics include the following aspects:
– The number of registrations submitted and the substances registered (including new and existing chemicals);
– The quantities of chemicals notified to the competent authorities of Member States under previous European Chemicals Regulation (Directive 67/548/EEC), and the quantities of chemicals currently under REACH jurisdiction;
– Number of the following registration categories:
– Registration type;
– Joint submission or individual submission;
Company size;
– The company's role in the supply chain;
– EU/European economy countries;
– The most frequently registered chemical substances;
– Total tonnage of the registered substances.
These statistics are all published on the ECHA website. The information can be found on the "Information on Chemicals" page, or downloaded as a PDF file from that page.
