Currently, 2,500 green building material labels have been issued in Taiwan, and nearly 20,000 product series have been produced. To expand the scope of label application, starting in July 2020, the Ministry of the Interior will add 12 new assessment criteria, including "building insulation materials." This will allow for the production of more diverse products in the future, and encourage the public to choose more high-quality building materials to jointly maintain the sustainability of the earth's environment.
The Ministry of the Interior's Building Research Institute pointed out that due to the continuous innovation in the types and functions of building materials, in order to meet the practical needs of the industry and consumers, the Building Research Institute has integrated a number of research results and suggestions from all walks of life. This time, the application scope and standards for green building materials have been revised, and the scope of application for standards has been expanded, including the "high-performance energy-saving green building materials" acceptance and assessment items. From "energy-saving glass", the number of accepted and assessed items has been increased from 1 to 5, including "building insulation materials", "energy-saving coatings", "glass film materials for building doors and windows", "insulating exterior wall systems", and "insulating roof systems", which has been greatly expanded to 6 items.
In the "Recycled Green Building Materials" section, five new criteria have been added to the list of eligible items: "Asphalt Pavement Aggregate," "Lightweight Aggregate for Insulating Concrete," "Insulating Materials for Buildings," "Insulating Roof Bricks," and "Controlled Low-Strength Materials." The number of evaluation items has been expanded from 22 to 27.
In addition, in line with the revision of building technical regulations, the "high-performance soundproof green building materials" have added sound insulation standards for partition walls adjacent to elevator shafts and dynamic rigidity standards for rubber buffer materials.
This revision of the scope and standards for green building materials assessment is the most extensive since the implementation of the green building materials labeling system. The "Green Building Materials Explanation and Assessment Manual 2020 Edition" has been completed and published, and the new standards set in the manual will be implemented on July 1, 2020.
The Building Research Institute (BRI) emphasizes that the quality of building materials has a significant impact on the comfort, health, and aesthetics of living spaces. Green building materials undergo relevant testing and review procedures to obtain certification. The establishment of the Green Building Materials Label system provides consumers with guidance when selecting building materials.
