In March 2022, the Taiwanese government officially announced the "Taiwan 2050 Net Zero Emissions Pathway Blueprint," providing a net-zero action path by 2050 and guiding the green transformation of industries. The Ministry of Economic Affairs' Small, Medium, and Small Enterprises Administration (SMEA) is actively monitoring international carbon issues and trends, working with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Through carbon reduction knowledge development, internships with leading companies, training industry net-zero talent, and low-carbon transition guidance, the agency assists brand suppliers in meeting customer low-carbon requirements, complying with international net-zero emissions targets, and successfully integrating into the green and sustainable market, a key policy goal.
On September 27, the SME Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs led small and medium-sized enterprises to learn from benchmark energy conservation and carbon reduction companies. Nearly 30 small and medium-sized enterprises participated. Director Ho Jincang said in his speech that through visiting benchmark companies, they will guide learning and understanding of energy conservation and carbon reduction practices, exchange low-carbon technologies and green business opportunities, and innovate more new cooperation possibilities. It is also hoped that participating companies can bring what they have learned back to their own organizations and enterprises, so that the low-carbon transformation thinking can continue to spread.
Chi-Mao Co., Ltd., a leading company and the largest wood flooring manufacturer in Taiwan, sources 92% of Taiwan's exported flooring and was recognized with the 25th Little Giant Award. Chairman Su Zhenyi stated that Chi-Mao has been promoting sustainable environmental protection since 2004, leading companies in the Yunlin Science and Technology Industrial Park to participate in increasing green energy coverage. They source FSC-certified raw materials and utilize enhanced dust collection equipment to collect sawdust and recycle waste wood into wood flooring, promoting green processes and reducing waste. The company is gradually implementing ESG, not only reducing carbon emissions but also reducing waste. This unwavering commitment, pursued for nearly 20 years, has proven to be the right path.
Energy conservation and carbon reduction are now a prominent and inevitable trend. Through joint efforts from the government and the private sector, we can make the world a better place and maintain a sustainable environment. The Ministry of Economic Affairs' Small, Medium, and Startup Administration has launched a new real-time digital service, the LINE@Carbon Service Platform (@cass), to provide access to real-time net-zero carbon reduction information and government resources, more effectively assisting small and medium-sized enterprises in achieving net-zero carbon reduction.
