You may have heard that major companies like TSMC have joined RE100, pledging to use 100% renewable energy by 2050. But have you heard of RF100? Today (June 16th) is World Refill Day, and the Fengcha Action Team has launched the "RF100 Zero Water Waste Project," inviting 100 public departments, organizations, and businesses in Taiwan to sign a commitment to eliminate the use, provision, or purchase of bottled water in all their activities by 2030. Several companies and organizations have already agreed to this commitment, with Lakeshore Hotel and Yiyun Medical stating they have already achieved "zero water waste."
Taiwan consumes 6 billion plastic bottles annually, prompting a public call for businesses to pledge to eliminate bottled water by 2030. Taiwan consumes 6 billion plastic bottles annually, 1 billion of which are bottled water. The "Fengcha Action" team launched the Fengcha app in March 2020, allowing people to easily find nearby drinking water spots through a "drinking water map." The app has amassed 230,000 users, with 13,000 drinking water spots, saving approximately 1.42 million cans of bottled water. The Fengcha Action team launched the "RF100 Drinking Water Zero Waste Project" on World No Packaging Day, inviting 100 businesses, public institutions, and organizations to pledge to eliminate 100% of bottled water in all internal and external events by 2030. The team revealed that several businesses and organizations have already pledged to eliminate bottled water by 2030, with some stating that they don't need to wait until 2030, having already eliminated the use, provision, or purchase of bottled water under 1 liter in all their internal and external events and spaces. These companies include Lion Travel, Lakeshore Hotel, Yongxin Energy, Yiyun Medical, and Greenpeace. Farglory Life Insurance and CSR@World have each pledged to meet the targets ahead of schedule, by 2023 and 2025, respectively. "When hotels and travelers take action, change begins," said the Lakeshore Hotel, the first to sign up, adding that its hotels have already launched supporting activities. Guests using the hotel's water dispensers can also earn membership points and enjoy discounts. Huang Weicheng, founder of the "Fengcha Action" and initiator of the "RF100 Zero Waste Drinking Water Project," stated that by leading the way for businesses to join RF100, plastic reduction can be encouraged among the public. He urged businesses to expand "Fengcha Points" for the public, especially in non-urban areas with less dense drinking water networks, where corporate sponsorship of water dispensers is urgently needed. This year's goal is to add at least 200 "ESG Impact Fengcha Stations." Companies interested in participating in RF100 can first complete the commitment response form. The organizers will then send a formal commitment certificate for companies to sign and seal. Companies should also declare "zero drinking water waste" to the outside world and complete the "bottled water inventory form" within three months to facilitate subsequent promotion and verification.
