To meet customer needs, China Steel actively provides credible recycled material products, and in 2021, it increased the proportion of scrap steel used in the galvanized steel product SGCC RC12 to 12%. It also passed the US UL 2809 certification, becoming the first company in the global steel industry to pass UL recycled material content verification, setting a new example of a circular economy.
China Steel emphasized that in order to respond to the future international trend of net-zero carbon emissions, the company will actively develop production technologies that increase the content of recycled materials and continue to move towards the sustainable development of low-carbon production and circular economy.
China Steel Corporation (CSRC) stated that UL 2809 is an environmental certification standard developed by the renowned US certification body UL (Underwriter Laboratories). Applicants must pass UL's rigorous production process and recycled material control audits to obtain the certificate. HP, a leading global provider of personal computers, printers, and 3D printing solutions, not only received the world's first ocean-recycled plastic content certification from UL in 2020 but has also been gradually promoting environmental sustainability policies among its suppliers. HP's assembly plant has also requested CSRC require its galvanized steel products (SGCC) to contain at least 8% recycled content and obtain UL 2809 recycled content certification.
China Steel pointed out that the company has made "high-value refined steel mill" one of the main axes of its business strategy for the next 50 years. In order to promote ESG development and respond to the challenge of carbon neutrality, it actively launched the UL 2809 certification application in 2021. After forming a special project team to complete a comprehensive assessment of process capabilities, control of recycled material proportions and customer needs, it decided to adjust the proportion of recycled materials "scrap steel" added to the galvanized steel product SGCC RC12 in the steelmaking process from 8% to 12%. For order processing procedures, steelmaking scheduling and production control, quality management and other related production and sales systems, the necessary control points and operating logic are customized to ensure that the verified products fully meet the recycled material content requirements and successfully pass UL's strict material control and traceability audits, becoming the world's first steel company to obtain UL 2809 recycled material content certification.
China Steel Corporation stated that it has been supplying galvanized steel to customers for long-term use in the manufacture of electronic product casings. The galvanized steel product SGCC RC12 has successfully passed the UL 2809 certification, which not only implements its commitment to developing ESG, but also provides customers with better choices.
