Taiwan Mobile announced on the 10th that it had been approved for EV100 membership on the 29th of last month and officially joined the "Electric Vehicle 100" global initiative on May 10th, becoming the third company in Taiwan to be approved as an EV100 member. Taiwan Mobile has pledged to electrify its entire fleet by 2030, with both official and company vehicles being converted to electric vehicles.
The company's fleet was electrified first. EV100 achieved remarkable results last year.
In 2022, Taiwan Mobile joined the RE100 global initiative, becoming the first Taiwanese telecommunications operator to do so, pledging to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2040. In May of this year, Taiwan Mobile also joined the EV100 initiative, also proposed by The Climate Group. This initiative advocates for businesses to work together to make electric transportation the new normal by 2030.
According to EV100's latest annual report released last month, by 2023, the 128 EV100 member companies had added over 230,000 electric vehicles to the global roadmap, a 57% increase over the previous year and the initiative's best performance to date. EV100 also encourages its members to build electric infrastructure, including charging stations. Last year, EV100 installed over 5,000 charging stations worldwide.
Taiwan Mobile, the latest to announce its membership in EV100, is promoting energy-saving and sustainable living through its own MyCharge charging platform, addressing the range anxiety associated with electric vehicles. Lin Dongmin, Chief Commercial Officer of Taiwan Mobile's Consumer Business Division, stated that to achieve its goal of 100% electrification of its entire transportation fleet by 2030, Taiwan Mobile has adopted four major commitments and two actions:
►Commitment 1: All Taiwan University official and company vehicles will be converted to electric vehicles.
►Commitment 2: Sign service contracts with taxi and car rental platforms to provide employees with pure electric mobility solutions.
►Commitment 3: Build charging station facilities on company premises. Through the self-built MyCharge platform, charging stations will be set up in Taiwan University's major offices, stores, warehouses, and other places.
►Commitment 4: In addition to Taiwan University premises, MyCharge charging stations will be built nationwide, and discounts will be provided to encourage the use of pure electric vehicles by the public.
Taiwan Mobile has also expanded its EV100 initiatives by promoting shared electric vehicle services and offering subsidies for employees to purchase electric vehicles. "MyCharge" has installed over 150 charging stations in offices, star-rated hotels, shopping malls, and parking lots. Combined with Tesla Superchargers and the Ucharging platform, it aims to address unused parking spaces, promote the adoption of electric vehicles, and reduce carbon emissions.
MyCharge office usage has doubled. Taiwan General Manager Lin Zhichen aims to build an electric vehicle ecosystem.
Taiwan Mobile stated that its one-stop charging operation service "MyCharge" built by combining big data has accumulated more than 150 charging piles in a short period of time, and provides charging facilities in the group's office spaces, such as the Taipei Cultural and Creative Building, Taipei Telecom Building, Fubon Financial Center Building, Fubon Life Building, etc., and plans preferential charging rates for employees to encourage employees to use pure electric vehicles. The utilization rate of Taiwan Mobile's office spaces is 200% higher than that of general spaces.
Taiwan Mobile General Manager Lin Zhichen pointed out that transportation accounts for approximately 14% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and that switching from fuel vehicles to electric vehicles is a key to reducing carbon emissions. Under the "Super 5G" strategy, Taiwan Mobile, adhering to the principles of "Green" and "Grit," has joined the EV100 initiative, aiming to convert all company vehicles to electric vehicles by 2030. The company is also translating its EV100 commitment into a business strategy, integrating telecommunications technology and artificial intelligence to expand its MyCharge charging service. By increasing the number of charging stations, the company aims to accelerate the adoption and adoption of electric vehicles across Taiwan.
Lin Zhichen added that the International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that electric vehicles will account for 40% of global new car sales by 2030. This shift in transportation is spawning new business models and heralding a paradigm shift from mobility to mobility. Taiwan is strengthening its 5G connected vehicle (V2X) platform, developing diversified services such as in-car entertainment, and a diverse range of innovative application platforms to promote a win-win situation for sustainable development and economic growth.
In addition, Taiwan Mobile is collaborating with WeMo Scooter, a leading brand of smart shared electric scooters, to secure competitive pricing for users and encourage sharing instead of purchasing. Before December 31, applicants for any of Taiwan Mobile's 5G projects will receive a 3-month (90-day) WeMo PASS subscription redemption code, enjoying 20 minutes of free rides for the first three trips each month; and up to 20% off for a designated number of trips each month. Customers who visit myfone stores will receive a set of NT$30 (NT$10 * 3 coupons) WeMo ride voucher codes each month, working together with consumers to strive for net zero. More sharing platforms will join the collaboration in the future.
