On January 25, 2024, the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China issued Announcement No. 3 of 2024 on Adjusting the Applicable Standards for Testing Methods of the Conformity Assessment System for the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products. The text of the announcement is as follows:
To align with international standards for testing methods for hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products, facilitate the industrial chain and supply chain, and facilitate trade in services, it has been decided to adjust the testing method standard for the conformity assessment system for the restriction of the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products from GB/T 26125, "Electrical and electronic products - Determination of six restricted substances (lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers)," to a series of eight standards for the determination of certain substances in electrical and electronic products (hereinafter referred to as the GB/T 39560 series of standards) (GB/T 39560.1, GB/T 39560.2, GB/T 39560.301, GB/T 39560.4, GB/T 39560.5, GB/T 39560.6, GB/T 39560.701, and GB/T 39560.702). The relevant requirements are hereby announced as follows:
1. From March 1, 2024, the testing methods for conformity assessment activities for the restriction of the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products shall be implemented in accordance with the GB/T 39560 series of standards.
2. For products that have completed conformity assessment in accordance with GB/T 26125 before March 1, 2024, the standard conversion will be completed through natural transition methods such as certificate renewal and product changes.
3. Products that have been manufactured or imported before March 1, 2024 do not need to undergo standard conversion.
